The Javelinas couldn't keep the Greyhounds off the board nearly enough in Friday's season and series-opening loss.

CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas — Texas A&M-Kingsville could not hold down the Eastern New Mexico offense as it fell, 7-3, Friday on opening day at Nolan Ryan Field.

The Javelinas (0-1, 0-1 LSC) gave up a three-run fourth inning after the Greyhounds (1-0, 1-0 LSC) scored off a double down the right-field line, a single straight to the pitcher and a throwing error from Texas A&M-Kingsville. That fourth inning burst from Eastern New Mexico, coupled with two more insurance runs, was too much for the Javelinas on opening day.

Eastern New Mexico finished with seven runs on 10 hits and one error while Texas A&M-Kingsville ended with three runs on eight hits with two errors. Ethan Campos was tagged with the loss after going three innings.

The Javelinas were bombarded early in the game, as the Greyhounds jumped on the second pitch from Campos for a home-run at the top of the first. However, Texas A&M-Kingsville answered right back with an Isaiah Aguilar double that led to a Vincent Sanchez RBI single.

After the Greyhounds erupted for a three-run fourth inning, Sanchez was able to get back on base with his second hit of the day. True Freshman Landon Salinas advanced Sanchez to second, then Sergio Galvan Jr advanced Sanchez to third which led to a Javelina score thanks to an ENMU error.

Heading into the seventh, Eastern New Mexico was able to get a security run with another Javelina error. Texas A&M-Kingsville was able to answer back however with a Jacob Cueva SAC RBI to get themselves within three. However, the bats ran cold in the final two frames as the Greyhounds took game one of the series.

Games two and three are played tomorrow at Nolan Ryan Field starting at 2:00 p.M. CST. Fans of the Javelinas can watch live on FloCollege or follow live coverage at JavelinaBSB on Twitter.
